It is my genuine pleasure to announce the 14 phenomenal young athletes who have made it through the initial stages of the Warrior Collective Best Young Martial Artist of the Year Award (sponsored by www.made4fighters.com) are;
Martial Artist of the Year – Nominees
Chantelle Tippett (Muay Thai) – Chaos Gym
Sandee sponsored 16 year old Chantelle Tippett of Team Chaos Muay Thai & Fitness Centre is a young girl who came from training in an old school hall in Devon to becoming a current World Champion. The Warrior Collective Best Young Martial Artist of the Year Award (sponsored by Made4Fighters) Nominee fights at the top level in Muay Thai, K1 and Kickboxing, holds multiple titles from Regional to World level, is an unbeaten 6.0.0 prospect from her recent move to the pro ranks (following an extensive junior/amateur record) and smashed her GCSE’s even though she was training hard for high level international bouts!! An athlete with the world at her feet, awesome work Chantelle!!
Tiah Ayton (Muay Thai, BJJ, MMA) – Impact Gym
Tiah Ayton should be in the Hunger Games because the girl is on ? The Warrior Collective Best Young Martial Artist of the Year Award (sponsored by Made4Fighters) Nominee currently holds 19 titles at the young age of 11 years old, fights across Muay Thai, K1 and Kickboxing with a 32.1.0 record (the loss was later avenged), holds multiple wins at a National level in BJJ and is well known for never not having a smile on her face! An inspiration in more ways than one, great work Tiah!!
Tiff Richardson (Kickboxing) – ACMAC
15 year old Tiffiny Richardson of ACMAC Martial Arts Schools is looking to dominate the Kickboxing scene in a big way! The Warrior Collective Best Young Martial Artist of the Year Award (sponsored by Made4Fighters) Nominee in 2017 alone has won 3 World Championships, the prestigious Dutch Open, 4 European Championships and multiple British/English/Regional Comps! The internationally well travelled young superstar has easily hit double figures many times over with her total wins at World, European and National level since starting competing 8 years ago! Phenomenal drive and determination for sure, well done Tiff!!
Joe Ryan (Muay Thai) – 2 Brothers Muay Thai
Joe Ryan is only 13 years old but lives and breathes Muay Thai. The young prodigy fighting out of 2 Brothers Muay Thai Gym has just recently been signed by Yokkao Boxing as part of their future talent program, has been unbeaten for over 3 years with 34 back-to-back wins and is the current IFMA Gold medallist (amongst an inordinate amount of other silverware and titles). A young person we should all be proud of, amazing stuff Joe!!
Isa Rahman (BJJ) – Fightzone London
Isa Monstro Rahman of Fightzone London is used to dealing with difficulty. 5 years ago the 10 year old youngster was hospitalised with a serious medical condition. Upon release, the Warrior Collective Young Martial Artist of the Year Award (Sponsored by Made4Fighters) Nominee had to work hard just to get back normal functioning across his whole life. It was at this time he was first introduced to BJJ and the rest as they say is history! Fast forward to the present day and he is now a UKBJJAranked No 1 junior, IBJJF British National Champion, Pan-Am Medalist, multiple times English/British/European Champion and winner of repeated NAGA divisions at Expert level in No Gi! Not only that but he is classed in the gifted and talented range academically within his school! An outstanding story of overcoming adversity, a testimony to this boy’s determination and an affirmation of the potential power that training in Martial Arts has for anyone that does it! Amazing stuff Isa!!
Libby Genge (BJJ) – Stealth BJJ
Libby Genge of Stealth BJJ – Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Manchester and Bacup Judo Club is a 13 year old with eyes firmly set on world domination in not just one martial art but two! The Warrior Collective Best Young Martial Artist of the Year Award (sponsored by Made4Fighters) Nominee is picking up wins left, right and centre in BJJ and Judo from regional to European level, was the first junior from the UK to ever compete in a Russian IBJJF event held there, is a member of the UKBJJA Elite Youth Squad and has a training schedule equal to most professional athletes. A young girl with a will so large that it eclipses even her prodigious talent, awesome stuff Libby!!
Nia Blackman (BJJ) – New School BJJ
13 year old Nia Blackman of New School BJJ is fast becoming a dominant force in the highly competitive world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the Warrior Collective Best Young Martial Artist Award (sponsored by Made4Fighters) nominee is UK no1, holder of a phenomenal amount of wins/titles (including World No Gi Gold Medalist, IBJJF European, Pan-American, American and British Golds, and many more) and is now having to move up to the older boys divisions so that she has more competitive matches! All this whilst maintaining top grades at school and helping to mentor younger children (both as an assistant coach on the mats and in the classroom at school)! You would be hard pushed to find a better role model, exceptional work Nia!!
Blaine Wilson (Kickboxing) – The Combat Academy
The world of Kickboxing has a young superstar in the making in the form of Blaine Wilson! The 14 year old from The Combat Academy in Barnsley is another nominee for the Warrior Collective Best Young Martial Artist in the UK/Ireland Award (sponsored by Made4Fighters). Literally more titles than he can carry from a range of disciplines including K1, low kick, full contact and light continuous, he has had over 65 ring fights with only 4 losses (3 of which he later avenged) and is well on track to achieving his aim of becoming one of the best fighters in the world. An awe inspiring young boy that we can all be proud of, great stuff Blaine!!
Muhammad Mokaev (Wrestling, MMA and BJJ) – Aspire Combat Academy
Muhammad “Black Tiger” Mokaev is no stranger to the MMA or Wrestling community within the UK, this 17 year old Warrior Collective Young Martial Artist of the Year Award (sponsored by Made4Fighters) nominee has been a Team GB wrestler since the age of 13 years old, is currently an unbeaten MMA prospect (7.0.0) out of Aspire Combat Sports Academy, is both the current Tanko & UKFC Flyweight Champion and holds wins at British/European level in BJJ & Wrestling!! Chasing at the heels of one his favourite fighters Khabib “the Eagle” Nurmagomedov, I am 100% sure we will one day see this young man making his debut within the UFC!! Awesome work Muhammad!!
Corey McLachlan (Muay Thai) – The Griphouse
Sandee sponsored Athlete and renowned The Griphouse fighter Corey Mclachlan – muay thai fighter may only be a youngster at 15 years old but he has been training/competing in Muay Thai for a long time. The Warrior Collective Best Young Martial Artist in the UK/Ireland Award (sponsored by Made4Fighters) Nominee is UK no1, multiple title holder from Regional to World level and a much sought after assistant coach at his internationally known gym in Glasgow. Ridiculously talented, we are going to be hearing a lot more about this young boy in the future I think, great stuff Corey!!!
Alex Williams (MMA and BJJ) – SBG South Shields
Alex Williams of SBG SOUTH SHIELDS is a young man with competing at the highest level firmly at the forefront of his mind! The Warrior Collective Best Young Martial Artist of the Year Award (sponsored by Made4Fighters) Nominee is not only actively competing successfully in MMA, he is collecting huge accolades such as National Champion, European Champion, NAGA Champion and Pan-Am World Champion in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a British Champion in Wrestling and flying the flag for the UK (and medalling) in countries as far afield as Abu Dhabi amongst the cream of young talent from all across the globe!! An amazing young athlete with a very bright future indeed, great work Alex!!
Jodie McCarthy (Muay Thai, BJJ and MMA) – TFW Cork
Jodie McCarthy of Training for Warriors – Cork wants to follow in the foot steps of Thug Rose and become a dominant force within the UFC when she is older! The Warrior Collective Best Young Martial Artist of the Year Award (sponsored by Made4Fighters) Nominee is well on her way having not only won world titles in Muay Thai across multiple weight divisions, she is also an Irish BJJ and NAGA Champion! Fearless of any challenge, she has also had 2 pro fights in Thailand, which she won convincingly and is a multiple weight World Champion in K1 as well!! #thugjodie may well be a hashtag to watch out for in the future, awesome stuff Jodie!!
Louis Lee Scott (Muay Thai, MMA and BJJ) – Bad Company and AVT MMA
17 year old Louis ‘Lightning’ Lee Scott of AVT Mixed Martial Arts Yorkshire / Bad Company Gym is turning heads every time he trains and fights. The Warrior Collective Best Young Martial Artist of the Year Award (sponsored by Made4Fighters) Nominee has earned his moniker ‘Lightning’ for obvious reasons, the young fighter is an exceptionally talented striker with over 50 Muay Thai fights to his name (having KO’d a high level Thai opponent at aged 14), is a sponsored athlete under Tanko as part of their super talent group, is currently unbeaten in the world of MMA (4.0.0) and is shortly due to fight for a huge title! A young man making his presence known everywhere, excellent work Louis!!
Jack Grundy (Wrestling, Boxing and BJJ) – Team Kaobon Wigan
Jack Grundy of Team Kaobon Team Kaobon Wigan is a young boy who may well have been in a singlet before he could walk given that he is the son of Commonwealth medalist, top Pro MMA Fighter and Wrestling phenom Mike Grundy! The Warrior Collective Best Young Martial Artist of the Year Award (sponsored by Made4Fighters) Nominee is not coasting on anyone’s coat tails though, having won multiple British/English Wrestling Championships, he regularly travels internationally to train/compete in many different martial arts disciplines and having also won a European Championship in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, he is an outstanding young athlete with a work ethic second to none in his own right, awesome work Jack!!
What happens next?
Over the course of January I will be making trips out to each of the above young athletes to film with them and present them with the sponsorship package earned for making it through the initial stage. Once all have been visited, the videos will go online on here and across all the Warrior Collective social media prior to a public vote opening to decide on the eventual winner! Stay tuned, the ride gets even more exciting from this point on!!!
