Born on 7 September 1952 in Para District, Suriname, Carbin began his martial arts journey after moving to Amsterdam.
Early training in Kyokushin karate under Jon Bluming laid the foundation for his technical mastery, and he quickly became the first European Kyokushin Karate Champion — a historic achievement in a discipline known for its toughness and rigorous standards.
Carbin didn’t stop there. He expanded into kickboxing, Savate and Muay Thai, capturing multiple titles including:
1981 Muay Thai World Champion (-63 kg)
M.T.B.N. European Super Lightweight Champion
Savate European Cup Champion
World Champion in Kickboxing
and numerous other national and continental crowns — all while compiling a legendary fight record in the golden era of European striking arts.
From Champion Athlete to Legendary Coach & Innovator
After retiring from competition in 1987, Carbin turned his focus to coaching and innovation. He founded Fighting Factory Carbin in Amsterdam — a gym that became one of the most respected combat sports hubs in the world.
As a coach, Carbin’s influence is unparalleled. He developed his own unique methodology called “Carbin All Style” — an adaptable striking system built from Kyokushin karate, kickboxing, Savate, Muay Thai and boxing principles that emphasizes fluid movement, angles, timing and unorthodox combinations.
Under his guidance, Carbin produced an extraordinary roster of world-class fighters and champions, including:
Rob Kaman — Kickboxing legend inspired by Carbin’s early fights.
Alistair Overeem — MMA and striking icon.
Tyrone Spong — World champion kickboxer/boxer.
Ilonka Elmont — Multiple-time female world champion.
Andy Ristie, Gilbert Yvel, Sergio Wielzen, Frank Lobman and many others — fighters who earned global success under his mentorship.
In total, Carbin has mentored dozens of world champions across striking arts and combat disciplines — a testament to his coaching genius and ability to unlock elite performance.
