Stamper first stepped onto the mat at just six years old, immediately drawn to the explosive and dynamic nature of Taekwondo.
As a young competitor, he quickly made his mark — winning multiple British titles and a European Junior silver medal, earning selection to the Great Britain Academy in 2006.
Over nearly a decade representing Team GB on the world stage, Stamper compiled an impressive competitive résumé:
10× British Champion and multiple international Open titles
3× European medallist and World medallist at senior elite levels
Bronze medallist at the 2011 World Taekwondo Championships
5th place at the 2012 London Olympic Games, narrowly missing an Olympic medal in one of the sport’s most competitive weight divisions
His tenure on the British national team took him to over 40 countries, competing and training across Europe, Asia, Australia and beyond.
From World Class Athlete to World Class Coach
Upon retiring from elite competition in 2015, Stamper transitioned seamlessly into coaching — joining the high-performance staff at GB Taekwondo, where he helped shape the next generation of elite athletes.
Under his guidance, Bradly Sinden became Great Britain’s first ever male World Champion in Taekwondo at the 2019 World Championships — a historic milestone for the sport in the UK.
Stamper has coached at the Tokyo and Paris Olympic cycles, working with Olympic medallists and world class performers across multiple weight classes.
He remains one of the most sought-after taekwondo coaches in the world, respected both for his technical insight and his ability to elevate kicking mechanics, timing and competitive strategy.
He is also the Lead Instructor at Martin Stamper Taekwondo Academy (MSTA) in Droylsden, Manchester — a club devoted to bringing high-level coaching to grassroots practitioners and building a community rooted in excellence, discipline and personal development.
