She represented Great Britain throughout her junior career travelling and competing all over the world. After a 5th place at the Junior World Championships and a bronze at the Europeans she went on to take her first national senior title at 19. Between 2002 and 2004 she won 3 consecutive European Championship medals and a bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester. She competed in Athens 2004 before retiring in 2005.
After a 5 year hiatus in Thailand where she taught English as well as training in Thai Boxing, she once again returned to the UK and secured her place on the GB judo team. Between 2010 and 2012 she won numerous medals including a European bronze. She represented Team GB in London 2012 Olympic Games at ExCeL London, being knocked out in the first round by Kum Ae An[5] who went on to win the Gold medal, in the under 52 kg category.[6]
After retiring from judo Sophie took up Brazilian JuJitsu and quickly established herself as a competitor winning the European Championships at blue belt. She also won the AbuDhabi World Championships at blue belt and in her first World Masters she took home a gold and a silver at purple belt. She continues to travel and compete in BJJ and judo whilst working full time as a coach for England judo, running classes at Bacup judo and teaching private classes.
