Steven Lopez is well regarded as one of the P4P best Taekwondo athletes of his generation. The Nicaraguanborn American fi ghter is a two times Olympic Gold medallist and fi ve-time Taekwondo World Champion. Born in Nicaragua, Steven moved with his parents to New York City in 1982. He first started training Taekwondo at the age of 5 years old in his home garage with his father and older brother.
His siblings, Mark, Diana and Jean (coach) are all USA National Team Members in Taekwondo. The younger of which, Mark and Diana, also represented the United States at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, marking the first time since 1904 that three siblings have been on the same Olympic team. The 4th Dan black belt has had a distinguished competitive career, including participation in three Olympic games (2000 and 2004 gold medallist, and 2008 bronze medallist) and 5 World Championships (Winner in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2009).
